Unlike generously funded university presses, which have big budgets to employ staff and publish books, the Latin American Review of Books receives no financial support. Yet those same presses, while relishing our work and making valuable use of it in their marketing, will not help us fund what we do.
We have limited resources and, like all websites, we incur running costs. That means we rely entirely on the goodwill and support of our readers – through subscriptions and donations. We are growing fast, but need your help in order to champion scholarship and fine writing on Latin America.
Help us to help you
- Make a donation: you can make a one-off or monthly donation through Stripe or PayPal on our site. See the right hand side panel or the footer for the links.
- Subscribe on Substack: We provide free and paid content on Substack in order to help us generate funds. A paid subscription is one $7US / month. And for that, you gain exclusive access to quality review of contemporary work and a backlist of hundreds of items from our archives.
- Fund a ‘fast-track’ review: books we receive are put on a list that can take several months to get through. If you need a review of your book within 3 weeks, you can fund a ‘fast-track’ article. This is not unethical. Publishers routinely turn to paid review sites to obtain material with which to market their books. In our case, you can rest assured that what we receive simply goes to maintaining and improving our website. If you need a fat-track review, contact us at editor@latamrob.com.
Promote our work
- Talk to us: we have introduced podcasts on the site to gain first-hand insights from authors about their books and work. We welcome the opportunity to talk to scholars of Latin America and activists. If you have a proposal, contact us at: editor@latamrob.com
- Follow, like and repost on social media: this draws attention to our work and brings in new followers and subscribers.

- Ask your campus library to subscribe to us: an institutional subscription is the best way to access our archive.
- Send us your books: we are happy to receive new work to review, ideally as a PDF because we do not have a lot of physical bookshelf space. Please note that we may subsequently offer these reviews to paid subscribers only—this is the only way we can fund our work.
